Interesting art, incompetent presentation. The squid camouflaged over the train. Things of interest hidden in backgrounds. Doors tiny (I often get stuck inside rooms.) Now remember the tiny hit boxes.- Grind. Lots of things need a repeat. After charging the train 37 identical times, I almost left. But I'm stubborn. The tornado room, however... well, I passed it, obdurately, yet I knew, grinding it, that it would be the last. I'm done. When a game feels like labour, it's a fail.- Shall I mention the sad, sad GUI ? I mean, there is a mini-menu, sort of. Okay, I don't mention it.You can solve most puzzles, really, just by clicking randomly or shaking the squid until something moves. The others will require even more patience, but no more than 1 gray cell.. Got it because of the art style, kept playing because I got stuck.Awesome visuals and atmosfere. No hand holding or hints. No loot boxes.Just great puzzlesCan't wait to play more. This is by no means the next best game, which undersells it in my opinion. It's still a very nice game, a lovely little gem you can probably complete faster than I did (about 8 hours).Controls are a bit muddy, but at times that actually feels right for a robo-squid tethered to hulking machine by a heavy chain.Some puzzles are better than others, and I definitely found a few that I got stuck on where I was frustrated with how random the whole thing seemed to be. But bit by bit, things clicked into place, and I felt satisfied poking and prodding at this game.There is some story in the developer's walkthrough/story guides in Steam's community hub for this game. But mostly it's atmospheric and vague.For me, this definitely ended up being greater than the sum of its parts. I liked the atmosphere, I enjoyed the puzzles, and I was surprisingly touched when the journey concluded. I would definitely recommend it, though if you're on the fence you may want to wait for a sale.. Pros: Really nice easthetics. At the beginning it was tough to get the mechanics, but there are hints what to do, you just need to know where to look. Also, If you are Czech as me, you would appreciate several "Easter eggs" - little details where you could notice that it was developed by your fellow countrymate.Cons: The game ends at the best moment and it begs for more content. The difficulty was perfect for me and my wife, everything was possible to understand and solve. Main story arc is played in the passenger train on the same railroad and you will not venture forth. Both stories are therefore located in the same place - The Border City - but in different time. You will also meet main protagonist Ann Tagrezbung from the first game. We must warn you, she is quite lovely, unmechanical and still human...We decided to tell a story of Dark Train (2016) purely without any text just with atmosphere, symbolism and non-textual narrative tools.
